The Black Soldier Fly is the insect species at the core of the insect bioconversion industry. This industry converts organic side streams into insect protein meal, insect lipids (oil), and a fertilizer product called “frass”.
There are more than 50 companies rolling out industrial-scale facilities that bioconvert organic waste into protein meal and lipids for use in petfood and livestock feed.
