We are a mission-driven team

Our mission: solve meat.

Our technology platform is centered around the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens).

Our services can make insect bioconversion far more profitable.

And our products will enable cultivated meat to become a mainstream alternative to slaughter-meat.

A more sustainable and equitable food system

FlyBlast was founded to create a more sustainable and equitable food system is to provide consumers with high-quality, healthy, and ethically-sourced meat alternatives.

FlyBlast is creating new enabling technologies, to better harness the bioconversion powers of insects.

We believe our products will enable the cultivated meat industry to produce sustainable, nutritious, and delicious meat products that are better for the planet and better for consumers.

Black Soldier Fly

We work with the Black Soldier Fly, and have done so for more than a decade.

Its scientific name is Hermetia illucens, but the industry calls it “BSF”.

The BSF is not considered a pest, it is safe to breed in Europe, and it does not transmit disease. It is therefore an ideal candidate for large-scale insect farming.

In fact, the BSF is widely recognized as one of the most sustainable sources of protein in the world.

Insect bioconversion 2.0

Let’s start with a blast from the past: more than a decade ago, we were among the first pioneers of the insect bioconversion industry. (We even believe we coined the term “insect bioconversion”, but we’re probably not the only ones with that claim.)

Over a hundred companies globally breed this insect species right now, and several companies are constructing large industrial facilities.

We’re proud to have played a key role in founding this revolutionary industry, and we’re even more excited to take it to the next level: insect bioconversion 2.0.
